Outdoor Cooking - Propane or Charcoal? Charcoal is Hitting the Bricks in the U.S.A

Last updated 3 years ago

The numbers speak for themselves and you can see the trend on the showroom floor at your local home improvement store. The convenience, economy and versatility of propane BBQ's make them the choice of nearly 60% of American families. Here's why.

Propane BBQ's are convenient. An average propane BBQ lights with the push of a button. It heats up to cooking temperature within about 10 minutes. You can raise or lower the temperature of the grill to suit your menu. When you are done, you shut it off so there's no waste or ash to clean up. Hands down, easier than charcoal.

Propane BBQ's are economical. A 20lb propane cylinder will burn for nearly 20 hours worth (for about $12-$16 if you bring it to us for refilling). The equivalent amount of charcoal to cook for 20 hours of grilling (direct heat for steaks, fish, veggies, pizza, etc) is about 4lbs per hour. That's 80lbs of charcoal!! If you use the expensive stuff (which is really great for fancy meals) you might need a loan to pay for the charcoal!

Propane BBQ's are versatile. When it comes to cooking a wide variety of foods, the propane BBQ simply rules the patio. It can maintain low temperatures when you want to slow-cook. It can hold a nice even temperature so you can bake bread, roast meats or veggies. Finally, a good propane BBQ can also reach the high end temperatures you'll want to sear cuts of beef or lamb. One grill. Several different ways to cook a variety of foods. Propane is again the easy choice.

At Kamps Propane, our employees are passionate about cooking, indoors and out. The long days and warm nights of summer give us the chance to ignite the flame that fires our grilling experience. If you are in the market for a new BBQ, we suggest that you buy the very best grill that you can reasonably afford. Take good care of it and it will reward you with years of service. Come see us if you need an extra BBQ propane cylinder and ALWAYS bring your empty propane cylinder to our office for a refill.
