It won't be long before we see the summer's first major wildfire. Temperatures are climbing, humidity is low and some areas are expecting winds above 30 mph.
This is a recipe for a problem that we can all take steps to prevent.
Make a point to carefully review your fire safety plan this weekend. Clear brush and debris away from your home and any other structures on your property. Make certain that you keep the area around your propane tank free of any combustible materials. Clear any pine needles or leaves off your roof and out of your gutters. Talk to your family and neighbors about what you'll do if a fire threatens your area.
While you are thinking about fire safety, your local volunteer fire department could probably use a thoughtful donation. A well-trained and fully-equipped VFD is critical in a long, hot and dry summer so drop off a check at the station when you are in the area.
Only you can prevent wildfires...
