FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCOTT LEADS BOTH STOCKTON AND ALL AMERICAN POINTS IN HISTORIC SEASON
PINE GROVE, CALIFORNIA (July 18, 2012) – 2011 Motorsports Press Association Driver of the Year Matt Scott is on the verge of a record-breaking NASCAR Late Model campaign as he leads the track points standings at both Stockton 99 Speedway and All American Speedway. Scott took over the lead at Stockton 99 after winning his 24th career Late Model race on Saturday night in a thrilling night of twin 50 lap races.
Scott is a two-time defending All American Speedway Late Model champion driving a family-owned #35 Kamps Propane-sponsored Chevrolet. The former Legends car standout driver has made a huge impression on the Northern California Late Model scene over the past few seasons, highlighted by his 2010 and 2011 championships at Roseville.
He came out of the gate swinging at Stockton by winning a hard fought race on April 21 against former track champion Jeff Belletto. After that incredible side-by-side duel, Scott and Belletto have continued a back-and-forth season at the speedway highlighted by the events on Saturday night.
"This (battling) is going to be every weekend I can just tell...the racing out here is so intense," Scott said. "We have a little bump and grinding going on but we're not wrecking too many cars. Man this points race is getting closer and closer and it's just going to be right down the end."
Scott and Belletto split the twin 50s with Belletto getting the best of Scott in the first 50 lap contest after they raced side-by-side for numerous laps. Scott answered back from a fifth place starting position in the second 50 lap race to get his fifth win of the 2012 season. Scott took the lead from July 7th Roseville winner Mindy McCord just past the halfway point of the race to take the win.
"I can't thank my crew enough," Scott said. "They do a great job. I knew the outside was going to be my preferred line so I was happy she picked the bottom on the restart."
The 2012 season at Stockton 99 Speedway has been Scott's first full-season at the tough quarter-mile paved oval in Stockton, CA. His only previous start at the track came in May 2010 where Scott left with a battered race car but with hopes of redemption.
At All American Speedway in Roseville, CA, Scott has picked up where he left off from the last two years, with two wins, two fast-times, and three runner-up finishes as well. All told, Scott has picked up a remarkable 14 top-fives in 17 starts with a perfect 17 top-tens as well.
Scott's success in 2012 has also kept him in the hunt for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division III Asphalt championship as well. Scott is currently second in the points at press time.
For the all success that Scott has experienced so far in his Late Model career, the young driver originally from Pine Grove, CA hopes to move into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series or SRL Southwest Tour by the end of the season.
"Every race we run is important because you never know who is watching," Scott said. "My family has done so much for me to get me to this point but we need some help to keep my career moving forward. I can't thank my sponsors enough including Kamps Propane for all they have done for me!"
