Checking Your Gas Appliances

Last updated 5 years ago

When using gas appliances, safety should be your top priority. Any fuel-burning appliances, including stoves, furnaces, water heaters, clothes dryers, and gas fireplaces, should be routinely checked to ensure that they burn propane gas cleanly and aren’t allowing gas to escape into your home. Watch this video to learn what to look for in various appliances.

Check your gas range for a consistent blue flame that ignites quickly. Yellow flames and sputtering are signs that your range isn’t burning gas properly and needs cleaning. In addition, inspect any furnaces and water heaters that use pilot lights and burners. Again, you want to see a uniform blue flame. Be sure to keep up on routine maintenance such as changing air filters to keep airflow smooth.
